"true stories about the future"

I’m working on a volunteer project for the local humane society that involves looking at their adoption and return data. The spreadsheet that I’m working from has the animals’ names as well as their ID numbers. I’m almost at the end of the sheet, and I just ran across a dog named “Gwen Stacey” - probably my favorite so far. (There was also a cat named “MJ,” but that’s harder to trace to Spider-man.)

Other good ones, from which a few strange themes emerge:

  • A.C. Slater [cat]
  • Augustus [dog]
  • Mrs. Pineapple [cat]
  • Mole-A [cat]
  • J Wowww [dog]
  • Tiny Pie [cat]
  • Radish [cat]
  • Cinnamon Toast [cat]
  • Siddartha [cat]
  • Maximus [dog]
  • Claudius [dog]
  • Star Goddess [cat]
  • Barnum’s [cat]
  • Screech [cat]

Tinkerbell is also a popular name, cropping up for both dogs and cats, with alternate spellings (“Tinkerbell” and “Tinkerbelle”). Variations on “bear” are popular too - “Bear,” “Little Bear,” and “Baby Bear” all show up for dogs and cats as well.
